Counselling Contract
Confidentiality
Everything you talk about in our sessions is confidential. The only time we would need to talk about breaching this confidentiality is if you or anyone you talked about was at risk of harm or in any kind of danger. If I am very concerned about such a risk, and I am unable to discuss this with you, I would be forced to inform your GP or the relevant authorities.
Temporary Confidentiality Clause in Relation to Coronavirus/Covid 19:
Please bring a mask to your appointment. There is sanitiser available at the front door and I spray the furniture with disinfectant between sessions. If either of us develops Covid-19 symptoms or has been in contact with a person who has contracted the virus, we will cancel the in-person session and, health permitting, use video or telephone for the session instead.
Session Length
Sessions last for 50 minutes and are arranged on a weekly basis for a time-limited or open-ended period of time.
Fees
Payment can be made by BACS transfer before or after the session, or by cash. I review my fees annually providing at least one month’s notice of any increases in price. Should you experience any difficulties with payment(s), please discuss this with me as soon as possible.
Bookings
I consider an appointment confirmed once agreed verbally, by email or text.
Cancellation Policy
Seven days notice is required to cancel a weekly appointment. To avoid a cancellation payment of the full session fee, I will always try to offer you an appointment in the same week.
To get the most from the therapy process, attendance should be weekly and cancellations few and far between. If you cancel more than one session in every four weeks (except in exceptional circumstances, such as holidays and illness), you risk forfeiting your recurring weekly appointment slot, and moving to bookings made from week to week, which are subject to availability.
Facilities
There is a toilet on site. There is hand sanitizer available as you enter and leave the building. You are welcome to bring your own drink.
Ending Therapy
If our work together is open-ended (i.e. not time-limited by agreement, when we commence), I would expect that we would discuss and work towards an ending when the time is right. If we have been working together for some time, depending on availability, we could move to less regular or ad-hoc sessions, or end and keep the door open for further episodes. If you do feel like you have made the changes you came to counselling for, or indeed you have not and you wish to end the counselling process, please discuss this with me - I will understand and respect your wishes.
Boundaries
I understand there may be times when email, text or telephone contact between us is necessary outside of our booked session time, however, our relationship will remain a professional therapeutic one. If you live locally to McCrone House, as I do, we can also discuss how we might manage an unexpected encounter in public, should that happen.
Data Protection
I keep written notes on our sessions, which identify you only by your first name, in a safe and secure place in my home. I keep these for seven years before destroying them. You are entitled to a copy of them, if you wish, at any time. Any other personal data (e.g. date of birth, home address etc) is kept separately to your notes in the contacts on my smart phone, which is password protected. Your contact details include no reference to counselling or psychotherapy.
Ethics and Code of Conduct
As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy I abide by their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
If you are living abroad, please be aware that our counselling work is being undertaken in accordance with the UK law, and so any disputes will be subject to UK law.
If you would like to arrange an initial assessment appointment (charged at half my usual session rate), please contact me by email, contact form, or mobile.
